Hotmail issue

New member & not sure if in right section.
Anyway my problem is that when I get a new message in my Hotmail account it no longer just appears in my inbox as it used to. Now I have to refresh the browser before it shows up. Both IE & firefox sometimes give me this problem.
Thoughts anyone? Thanks.

Have you changed any settings in those browsers recently? There are settings that make them come up to where they were the open the last time and if somehow you have set that, then that's why you have to refresh the browsers manually.

 

Thanks Rich & no I'm not aware of having changed any settings. Have just checked the 'options' on both firefox & IE & there doesn't seem to be anything that would cause this, although being a novice not sure what to look for. As a point of interest I use three different email addresses, all Hotmail & three browsers IE, firefox & opera. This problem does not occur with Opera just the other two??

 

OK in Firefox go "Tools", "Options" and in the first tab which is "General" the first box says "Startup" make sure that you have not selected "When Firefox starts", "Show my Windows and Tabs from last time". Change that to show "Home Page" and click "OK" at the bottom.
In IE, again "Tools", "Internet Options" and first tab is the same you will see "Startup" and make sure it says "Home Page" and not "start with tabs from last session".

If you do not see the familiar "File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks or Favorites, Tools, Help headers on the top left of those browsers start right clicking across the top of the browsers until you see some options the first of which is "Menu Bar" and make sure that is checked.

 

Thanks. Yes have checked & all is as you say it should be...........so there is obviously another issue.
Not sure if this is related but when I leave my PC for say an hour then return to it I cant get IE to work. Its there on screen but the little blue circle just spins round & I cant open, for instance, the inbox, even if I refresh. I have to close it & open it again?
May be all same problem?

 

Have you tried resetting IE in Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and Reset? There are 2 options. One leaves all the settings and the other completely restes everything.

 

OK I have completely reset IE.
It hasn't solved the original problem in as much as I get an indication of an email in the small box in the toolbar but cant see it in my inbox until I refresh. Will need to leave the PC for an hour or so to hibernate or whatever it does to see if the wider issue is resolved.

 

Do you shut down your PC at all. Please do so now and then start from a cold boot.

 

Yes I close everything & shut down every night but the problem persists.

 

Time to post the logs in the Malware Forum and let the pros make sure you don't have any "visitors".
