    Using Win7 Home Premium on 2 Dell"s (XPS8300, XPS400).

    I setup a hardwired network Homegroup. The XPS8300 is the primary. Both computers see each other.
    Both have file sharing on, Discovery on, password protection OFF.

    When I try to access a folder (shared) on the Primary from the XPS400 a window pops
    up wanting a User Name and a Password. I know what the password is but have no idea
    what User Name is is being asked for.

    A search for help on User Name I find nothing of use.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Hi, does the primary XPS8300 computer have more than one user account?

    If so I think it is asking which of the accounts you want, if only one account, then the user name for that account. Try that and let us know if that works.

    I believe that it may be the computer name as opposed to the account name but I am not sure, so you may want to try both if their are multiple users.

    It is asking for the username and the password of the user account on the machine you are trying to connect to.

    You can disable this feature by;
    - Open the Control Panel
    - Click on Choose HomeGroup and Sharing Options under the Network and Internet heading.
    - Scroll down and click on Change Advanced Sharing Settings.
    - Scroll right to the bottom, and the very last section should be titled HomeGroup Connections.
    - Select the first option, (Allow Windows to manage connections), to disable the need to log into a user account.

    Hope this helps!
