OK, I have been having this issue for quite a while and I will list in detail the things I have tried.

I have been having an issue with Open GL not updating. I am currently using a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
Graphics card is ATI (now AMD i understand) Radeon HD 4500.

    I updated my Graphics Driver.
I Uninstalled the driver completely and re installed after reboot.
I tried an Open GL to Direct X wrapper.
I even tried a file from an "Open gl for gamers" site that did no good.

I have looked up my card and AMD states that my card is Open GL 3.1 compatable but will not update past 1.1.

I found a page once that explained how to do some registry editing and erasing of the old ATI folder (seems windows 7 has issues with actually updating older files according to the page). I do not know where this old ATI folder is,nor the registry entries associated with it, and have since lost the page. (looked it up at a friends house so wasn't saved in my history)

there are no windows updates concerning this issue from what I have seen, and I looked through all the update descriptions.

If anyone can help, I would be most grateful as I have exhausted other options I know of.

    Thank You ahead of time.

    Sakura

for the life of me I cannot find the edit button for my post. it seems that windows 7 keeps reverting my driver back to GDI Generic. Do not know how to keep it from doing that.

Hi Sakura. Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
You can't edit your post after a few minutes.
    Many reasons for that.

My guess you are not removing the old drivers before installing the new updated drivers.
Save them to your Desktop and install from there.

actually this last time I did, and used driver sweeper as well. I noticed that when I uninstall my driver, when I reboot, windows automatically reinstalls one before I can install the updated one. How do I stop it from doing that? (the driver is for my video card, but it has WDDM 1.1 at the end of it) would I need to go in and remove the driver completely from my system that it is auto installing?

The secret is to uninstall the old driver, then install the new driver, do not reboot between the two, Windows only installs its own drivers at boot up, hence catching you out before you can install the new drivers.
    Hope that helps.
