Hi what type of player are you trying to play the resulting disks in?
If in your computers disk drive, then AVI, MP4 or quite a few other formats should play OK.
However if trying to play them in a stand alone or TV based DVD player, the disks must be created as DVD disks as most are simple DVD only players.
There is also the fact that if those video's are commercial, they may well be protected with digital rights management, hence why sound but no picture.
To alter that is a breach of copyright, so we cannot help in any way with that.

After converting to AVI, will they play on your computer drive?

Have you tried the disks anywhere else?

I am also wondering if there may be a fault on the burning head in the computers disk drive, if they play in another computer, or other player, it will rule that out.
