I found a tool on asus website called ASUSUpdate. This program atuomatically detects my motherboard an all available bios updates and installs them for you. Should i begin updating bios from oldest release to newest release? Each release addresses different problems. Let me know.

Also: checked my bios for anything called SATA Controller and could not find anything like that and i changed my boot sequence to

    CDROM
    OLD HD
    NEW HD

note: the only way i was able to access the new HD was by removing the sata cable from the MB and booting up regularely. Once i got to the dektop i simply plugged the sata cable back into the MB and went to computer management. It was able to detect it and i am even able to store files on it.

Okay, sorry my system decided to dislike PDF files as I was replying to your post.

I would not advise updating the BOIS unless there is no other option.

Looking through your motherboards manual, there is a physical jumper on the board itself for enabling and disabling the SATA controllers.

I was trying to grab an image of it for you when my system froze. Let me try again, i'll add it as an attachment below:

Unfortunatly, just noticed the laptop I am working on didn't have Paint, so had to manually install it first :p

    SATAJumper.JPG

Check it is in the Enabled position.

I need to add, remember to only change this Jumper or any other jumper when the system is powered off.

The jumper was already in the correct position. I had however turned the power off, switched jumpers, and booted up. It skipped the Silicon Raid screen during the boot up. I the powered-off and put the jumper back into its orignal postion, booted it up, and got stuck at the silicon raid area again. It won't let me enter the raid setup either. So i had to shut down once more, disonect the sata cable from the MB and power it up using my old hd as the primary boot drive.

Okay, well it is late here so I will advise you of one more option to try and then I will have to call it a night I'm afraid, but we have many staff from all over the globe so there should be someone to assist you further in the meantime.

You will need to boot into your original HDD, WITH the new one also connected, so swap the boot order to:

    CD ROM
    Old HDD
    New HDD

When you managed to format your new hard drive, did you put a partition onto it?

If not, Open Disk managment again once booted into your original Windows, and on the new hard drive, create 1 single partition, and make it the entre size of the drive.
    Then restart your system,

And retry installing Windows again as you did before when you got the error.

Hopefully this will solve your problem and allow you to install the OS. I will hang around for another hour or so just to see how it goes.

    1. Go to Start -> Right Click My Computer -> Manage

    2. You will then be brought to the Computer Management Program

    3. Click on the Storage bar and under it click on Disk Management

Take a screenshot of the above image on your system and attach it to your next reply for me.

is it possible that my motherboard only accepts raid configurations and what are the chances of that?

It IS possible that could be the case.

Looking through your mobo manual it doesn't say anywhere about it being locked to RAID only, but it certainly does support RAID0 and RAID1.

It seems that if you haven't used a SATA drive on this system before, the correct SATA drivers have not been installed. These are avaliable from the motherboards manufacturers site most of the time, but I will have to say Dalo would be the person that know the most about RAID capabilities/limitations and BIOS flashing.

Although, that said, if you have Windows 7 installed it should have the basic SATA drivers incorporated.

I am afraid I am going to have to say sorry, but my exhausted mind is falling asleep on me, and I would rather not instruct you on things to do that could potentially make your problem worse without being fully sure and alert of what I'm saying.

Hopefully someone can contiue where we have left off soon, I know Dalo is in the UK so he will be around in the morning I believe is his times. But there are others who may be able to suggest and carry this help on from here :)

My apologies for not being able to continue tonight.

    @ jpeero.

If I read rightly, you are attempting to reinstall the same copy of W7 onto the new drive. Right ?
If so, your best/simplest course of action is to unplug the old drive/plug in the new drive/ proceed with installation.
Afterward you can plug in /wipe the old drive.

I have already tried this. The old drive is IDE and the new drive is SATA. When the new drive is in by itself it boots up to the Silicon Raid screen the gets stuck there. And when i try to install win7 on through my computer i get the error message

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

Im still not able to identify what the problem is.

This is your Motherboard. You have no Sata ports. Hence your troubles.

Edit: I just reread spec's on Newegg. It says you do. But I don't see them on the board.

They are at the bottom of the board close to end of the final PCI port, the two black things

I just remembered. You need to set the jumper on the drive to limit it to Sata 1.5GB/s. Have you done that ?
