    Hi Everyone,

My problem is I have an all in one HP desktop which was not playing. so I fitted a new hard drive. I reinstalled Windows 7 from the back up disc and all was well until windows sent me 133 updates, now whenever I use the machine and alter anything I get a Blue square saying " Crash Dump" windows will close down. After close down the computer restarts and message say's " No Operating System Found " I manually pull the plug and the restart, sart Windows normally and all is good for a while then off we go again with the same scenario. Anyone have any ideas, I would be really grateful for any help with this..

Welcome to CHF Dave. A couple of questions: did you do all the updates at once or were they installed individually? Have you tried removing the updates?

Hi Bill, Thanks for your reply, After loading windows 7, I did some work also downloaded AVG, anti-virus, all was well, went to shut down and had 3 updates from windows. Next day worked on machine for 5 or 6 hours, all good, went to shut down and had 133 updates from windows, walked away and left it to it. Next day the problems started especially when I tried to use the internet or used the AVG maintanance tool. Yes all 133 downloads came in at once. No I haven't tried to remove them, I'm not sure how to remove updates any way. Another issue I have which I assume is completely seperate is that I cannot find anywhere in my system the wifi I was going to download an up to date driver, I have been through the whole operating system, so I have been using ethernet cable direct to router. A strange thing though the other day I was using the computer offline with no cable to router and windows managed to send me another update??,
Thanks again Bill I will keep looking to see if you have any more advice. ~ Dave

Hi Dave.Further to Bill's good advice I suggest you do a system restore immediately prior to the 133 updates if possible.
Windows updates create a restore point with some updates.
    Worth a try.

    Hi,

Tried both suggestions you kindly offered me and computer seemed to be working well, then was working on line left it on google home page whilst I went to make coffee and it crash dumped again, no one near it and not doing anything. Any more suggestions on what may be causing this. Thanks ~ Dave

Hi Dave, one thing worth a try which at least will rule it out, is first of all download and save to either the desktop or a folder of your choice, Microsoft Security Essentials or other anti virus of good repute. Disconnect off line, then uninstall AVG, once it is fully off your system, then install the new antivirus.

The Microsoft MSSE can be downloaded from here :-

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-all-versions

See if that improves things as AVG is known to sometimes give trouble or conflict with other programs.

    Hi Nev,

Removed AVG as suggested, loaded MSSE, ran computer for an hour on home page, plugged into router left it on Google homepage within 10 minutes it crashed again, shut down, on automatic restart showed "no operating system found" so I closed it down, rebooted after 15 minutes and got same message. Had to leave it overnight before it would open to windows 7 homepage. When I switched on message said configuring windows ?? do you think I may have been getting updates from windows in the background and that could be the problem.. ~ Dave

The "No operating system found" message is now a bit worrying.
I know you fitted a new hard drive, however it doesn't mean it can't fail, DSTM will tell you he has seen a new drive fail after only a few hours use, so that just might be a possibility, can you tell us what make the new hard drive is as most manufacturers have an on line or downloadable test facility, if we know the make we can find that for you.

    Hi Nev,

Thanks once again for replying to my problem. The hard drive I used is a Seagate Barracuda 7200 which is like for like the one I removed with the exception that I took out a 250 gb and fitted a 500 gb. When I loaded windows 7 I did it via the bio as boot from cd and as I recall it used partition 2 as it said partition 1 was reserved, note: I don't know what any of that means I just remember that's what it said. Thinking back the reason I replaced the original hard drive was because I was getting the same message " No operating system found" and the gooks at a local store advised me to replace the hard drive. However I didn't get crash dumps!!!. Thanks again ~ Dave

    Hi Dave,
Which CD did you use to install Windows 7?
If a system copy or one downloaded from the net it may be that is the problem and has some small corruption.

In the mean time this is both a review and also has a download link for the two different Seatools which can check your drive for any errors, please have a read of the review first as it explains what you need before downloading the two tools.
