Malware (before you did a system restore) can change critical system files and break Windows services and replace drivers with the same name. Black Screen of Death came back afterwards. If this was malware related. lets get a bigger hammer and see..nothing is hiding

    Download and Run RKill

    • Please download RKill by Grinler from one of the 4 links below and save it to your desktop.

      Link 1
      Link 2
      Link 3
    • Before we begin, you should disable your anti-malware softwares you have installed so they do not interfere RKill running as some anti-malware softwares detect RKill as malicious. Please refer to this page if you are not sure how.
    • Double-click on Rkill on your desktop to run it. (If you are using Windows Vista, please right-click on it and select Run As Administrator)
    • A black screen will appear and then disappear. Please do not worry, that is normal. This means that the tool has been successfully executed.
    • If nothing happens or if the tool does not run, please let me know in your next reply
Do not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again. Or if rebooting is required run it again.

Do not run ComboFix on your own!

Referring to this instruction, please download ComboFix by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.

    • Right-click on dc76eab9ab98ec557e2c3a84a6c8db7d.png icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    • Accept the disclaimer and agree if prompted to install Recovery Console.
    • Do not take any actions while ComboFix goes through your System - it may cause it to stall!
    • This scan may take some time!
    • When finished - it will display a logfile (located also on your main drive, usually C:\ComboFix.txt).
Include that log in your next reply.

If you'll encounter any issues with internet connection after running ComboFix, please visit this link.
If an error about operation on the key marked for deletion will appear after running the tool, please reboot your machine.

    In your post, please supply:
    ComboFix.txt

No. This changes things, just run Combofix in Safe Mode with Networking

    1. Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep), tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.
    2. After your computer displays hardware information and runs a memory test, the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear.
    3. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode with Networking and press ENTER.

Then following my instructions with Combofix

Your problem is not malware related. It is recommended to do a reformat and reinstall of your operating system. I don't like to recommend normally, Black screen issues are extremely tough to repair and any fix is usually on a hit or miss basis.Often using a restore point nor startup repair will have any effect. Or will be a temporary fix. One of the things you can do is to follow the steps at the site below.

You're welcome! If this happens again, after you reinstall your operating system. Then it's a hardware issue like a video card or a hard drive issue, as with blue screens, there's information to find the cause, but black screens there is no information. Hopefully the cause is in the software itself. Speaking of software, here's a great site that will speed up things on installing software at
    https://ninite.com/

"Ninite installs apps for you in the background. No clicking next. We say NO to toolbars or other junk"
