I have a few software disks for windows XP, when I bought a new computer, when I try to download that software I get a message that it's not compatable with this operating system. I heard there is a way to download those type of software, but haven't found how to do it yet. Any help would be greatly apprecated. Thank-you for any help. Jonathan Huffman

Thanks for starting a new thread. :)

You have a couple of possible options.

    1)  If you are running a version of Windows 7 that is above Home such as Ultimate you can run XP Mode.  This actually works VERY well and allows full integration between XP and Windows 7 to the point where you can run XP software from the Windows 7 desktop.  XP Mode is actually what is termed as a virtual machine.  That means that you are running a totally different OS within another.  Here is a link to get you started at looking at XP Mode:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7

    2)  This can be hit or miss but open the install disks with Windows Explorer.  Right click on the installer and select properties.  Within the Compatibility tab select to run as Windows XP Service Pack 2.  You will also see an option for XP Service Pack 3 but I have had better luck with Service Pack 2.

' ' What software  are you trying to install? ' ' Are you running Windows 7 or 8? I'll assume you are using Win 8 as that is the operating system listed in
' ' your profile. ' ' Although Windows 7 can be very forgiving when it comes running to older software, Windows 8 unfortunately, is much ' ' less cooperative.
' ' Trying to force install any program is not recommended. It will wreak havoc on your operating system ' ' causing all mannner of problems on your ' ' machine.
' ' You'll end up with a corrupted OS and your computer will constantly ' ' freeze or lock up. Exactly w ' ' hat software are you trying to install?

True but the member's profile says Windows 8. As OS's change there is usually this confusion.
