Wouldn't take it too much to heart, as by there design (They have moving parts) a HDD is the most likely part of a pc to fail.

Personally I use Maxtor, but It would be interesting to know if anyone has any figures or links for the most reliable HDD's on the market.

Hard drives are guaranteed to fail. They just don't tell when.

As Dragnet says all HDD's fail...it depends on usage.
I have used Maxtor and Seagate (and they are now the same company ;) cant remember which owns who think its seagate)
Samsung are really good drives, but I have had some that were DOA....

    Hello karthik,

Had I known in advance that you planned on purchasing a Seagate Barracuda, believe me, I would have warned you. I buy nothing but

Western Digital. I have had WD delivered DOA, I have had them fail several months after I purchased them but I have nothing but great things to

say about the company and Customer Service. They have a full 3 year warranty on all internal drives. (The Raptor has, I believe a full 5 year.

warranty.) I have had to RMA a few times over the past few years but I have always gotten a brand new (not refurbished or reconditioned) HDD.

What do you mean, he isn't? Why in he:mad::mad: won't he?

That's exactly why. Dealers in hell don't believe in warranty, replacement, refunds or other consumer ethics. Once you buy it, its your responsibility. If it goes **** up on you, you did something wrong.

    Convenient, eh?

But ALL companies have to accept a product back within 7 days, you may not get the money back without a receipt, but you can get a replacement - UK anyway

I would just like to say that I am using this exact HDD and have no had any problems with it at all. As Cindy says she stays with WD, I stay with Seagate with WD second, then samsung. Every company has it's flaws and as said, all HDDs will fail at some point, some more than others, but I believe in Seagates HDDs, many others wouldn't! :p

Just wanted you to know that not everyone is against them, it is really down to personal choice. :)

Also, Seagate provide you with a 5 year warranty. Just checked online, all you have to do is fill in your HDD part number and serial number and it will tell you when your warranty runs out and if you are able to send it back or not.

    https://store.seagate.com/webapp/wc...NSrX6sZWZFxPTN7qiNOvGlw==&ddkey=SgSSORedirect

Go there when you get your HDD, input the info and see when your warranty is till. It should be 5 years.

If you want a more reliable hard drive you could try the SSD ( solid state drive ) , though they are very expensive ...

    Hmmm, glad someone raised this

SSD Solid State Disks have truly astronomical price tags.
Yes they are seen as more 'hardy' than mechanical drives BUT at the cost that they are you could replace a 1TB HDD 4 times over for the price of 1 SSD and as such not worth it IMO, especially as the speed benefits are so minimal.

I Would suggest creating a new thread for the problem unless it is linked with the problems in your previous thread. The only reason I say this is to help other members find it if they need it :)
