    hi,
Several months ago I purched a SSD which i now use as my boot disk. At the time I removed the existing boot disk. A few hours ago I put the old disk back in, and the computer booted off the old disk. After rebooting and setting the boot priority to the SSD it wouldnt boot asking to insert a bootable disk, same thing after removing all disks except the SSD. I tried booting off the windows install DVD and it will let me install windows to the drive, but wont reckognise the windows installation already on the drive to do a repair install. Booting from the old HDD i can browse the SSD, and all files seem to be there including the windows files.
Sorry for the wall of text, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Keydan.Welcome to Computer Help Forums.
I find your post a little confusing initially.
You want a dual boot system is that correct?

Download "EasyBCD" and set your boot options manually with this program.

no, I just want to use the SSD to boot, and wipe the other drive for generic storage. However, after adding the old disk, the SSD wont boot.

Some late Mobo's don't like a mixture of Hard Drives I have found from my own experience.
Try pulling the power from the old hard Drive and It should boot off the SSD.
When it boots rehook up the power to the old hard drive while booted and if windows recognizes it then format it.
Only do the above if your confident but be careful. I have done this on occassions.

Or install EasyBCD and set it to boot from SSD first and it will.

the problem is that I did unplug the old hard drive so that only the SSD remained, however it now wont boot at all. Even though it was working fine and booting, up until I connected the old drive earlier today.

Even with the old hard drive disconnected now it wont boot off the SSD?
If that's the case I would remove the mobo battery for a minute to set the Bios back to default and then go into the Bios and reset your Boot order.
