Hacktivists Set Sights on Myanmar After Attacks on Muslims

Hacktivists of Anonymous and other groups have resumed OpMyanmar. Anti-Muslim violence that broke out in the country over the past weeks has triggered the continuation of the campaign.

Cyber War News reports that several government websites – including the ones of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and Department of Civil Aviation – have been disrupted with distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks.

Hackers have also defaced a large number of commercial websites from Myanmar.

The hacktivists blame not only the Myanmar government, but also the government of the United States and the press for letting the persecution of the Rohingya people continue. They claim the press is “consistently ignoring the atrocities” that take place in the country.

“We call on the Anonymous collective to stand with those for whom no one else will stand. We call on Anonymous and all supporters of human rights to stand against this great injustice, to give the Rohingya a voice, before they are completely eliminated,” the hackers said in an earlier statement for a campaign called OpRohingya.
