Hi Mara, if a program was originaly a free to download and use, it should stay that way, the company or author basically gave away any rights on that version as far as I know. If at some stage in the future the author or company want to be paid, they must create a new version in order to do so.
That is all I know about copyright issues here in the UK, it may differ elsewhere of course, but BeeCeeBee may know more on that.

    Thanks, our Nev.

It makes perfect sense to me, too - about once free, that particular version should remain free but admit that copyright laws over here are so darn confusing - ugh.

I asked because while I only gave it a quick try yesterday, it was amazingly easy to use - and I'd love to be able to share it here with our other members if it's not 'crossing any lines'.

Part of the little animated section of that slideshow I made earlier was this wee clip ... using 'S', of course. I tried to move 'me' across the bus yard but failed dismally so had to just settle for this ...

    ---
Hmmm, it apparently uploaded but is not showing - will have to try again.

Oops, I've hit a wee snag regarding uploading animation ...

Because the part I was trying to isolate is a wee animated section within a slideshow, the format is avi. And wondering, once I get it isolated, is there a good freebie converter from avi. to animated .gif, please?

Doing a Google search of convert .avi to .gif gave me a few hits for FREE software that will apparently accomplish this. I have never done this so I don't know anything about these programs Does anyone here?

    Thanks

Wahoo!! A lovely friend recommended the below site for a simple to use freebie ... can't wait to give it a try!
    http://www.evanolds.com/movtogifsimple.html

Thanks so much for taking a look on the internet for me, Wildman ... I was finding a similar difficulty trying to figure out which was easy to work and/or safe to use, etc .

Keeping my fingers crossed I can get this uploaded ... anyway, it's the second thing I added animation to ... not perfect, but always learning - gentle grin.

A little tip regarding backgrounds or background images for use in Photofiltre.
We who use it will be familiar with the new image selection, click "File", then "New". This produces a box where you select the size of your new image, what colour the main background, or the choice of different background patterns, of which Photofiltre gives you a small selection of different types of backgrounds you can use.

What you may not know is that you can add to those patterns and expand the size of the pattern library.

To do so, first of all you must have an image you wish to be used as a background, this can be something created as an abstract of colours in a new image, or as I experimented with some odd photo's. I took shots close up of some patterned wallpaper, a piece of cloth, and even a brick wall. It is your imagination to use whatever you fancy.

First open the image in Photofiltre, it is here where you may wish to resize it, change colour or brightness and contrast ETC,

If happy with that image, right click and select "Save as". It is here you should change the image to JPG if it isn't already as well.

Using the navigator drop down at the top, go to computer, Your "C" drive, then program files (x86).

Find photofiltre and expand or open it, look for Patterns and open Patterns, it is there where you should store new patterns so that they can be found when you ask for a patterned background.

I now have a tremendous number of self created background patterns stored in there, and doubt if I will ever use them all, but it was fun making them.

    Nev.

I have been playing with things once again. The hand is my own, including slightly grubby engineers finger nails, (Will I ever get 'em clean again?)
However, as I am a south paw, it is a mirror image of my left hand, just to prove you can do that as well in PF..
As for the picture, well the writing says it all.

Well done indeed, Nev! (The background reminds me of the 60s - in fact, I think I once had a shift pretty much those colours - grin).

And of course, feel free Wildman! Anything and everything I post here as an image is either made by me or a true freebie from someone else's generous heart ... either way, please consider them a freebie for you and any of our other members here too - gentle smile.
