    Somchai Guest

I want to setup a GPO rule to block USB Ports on the Workstations. I am
having a 2008 Server but in the Templates I can see that the minimum
requirements for blocking the ports is Windows Vista. However, my client has
all Windows XP Workstations. How can I disable therefore the USB Ports on
the workstations. Is it also possible to disable it only for selected users?

I have tried to find a solution on the Web, but cannot find a satisfactory
    info.

    Any help is appreciated.

  2. Hello Somchai,

You can use Group policy preferences:

Therefore you need a Vista/2008 machine to configure them. Also you have
ot install Client side extensions on the XP machine:
Download and install RSAT on Vista/2008:

    RSAT 32bit:

    RSAT 64bit:

Then open Control Panel, Programs and features, Turn windows features on
or off, check the tools you like under "Remote Server Administration Tools"

    CSE XP 32bit:

    CSE XP 64bit:

    CSE 2003 32 bit:

    CSE 2003 64bit:

    CSE Vista 32bit:

    CSE Vista 64bit:

    See for the older way:

    After that you have to:
    - Right-Click the "Restrict Drives" node and choose "View" and "Filtering"
and uncheck the boxes that say "Only show.."
    - The ADM template defines "Preferences" instead of policies and those Preferences
    aren't shown by default.
