Ghost printer : how to remove ?

Hello,

I have installed a Windows 2003 R2 print server and installed a few
printers. One printer had an incorrect driver, so I have removed it from
the server, forgetting to delete it from the directory first.

Now, this non existent printer keeps appearing in the printer list when
we search AD for a printer. I have tried to delete it using the Active
Directory Users and Computers console, but it keeps reappearing.

Where should I go to remove this printer ?

there are two methods.

The primary method is a configuration on the DC to prune printers no longer
shared from member machines. The spooler service must be running on the DC
and the policy must be enabled.

Or you can manually delete the object under the machine account using
ADSIedit tools but I'm not sure if these tools are included in 2003 R2.

Hi,

I had already tried to delete the printer with ADSIedit, but it came
back ! Now, I was not aware of the printer policies, so I have just
activated them and hopefully the printer will be pruned soon.

Deleting the data under the machine account will resolve the issue. If the
printer was deleted on the print server, the spooler on the print server
CANNOT publish it again. Do you have any tools coping AD objects?

Have you tried in ADCU View Menu "View Users, Groups and Computers as
containers" then selecting the print server object. This is where the Printer
published is kept.
