XP is more of a risk because it has been targeted so often in the past, and because it was such a successful release and everyone was using it (well most everyone) by the time SP1 was out. Then when you add that there are no more patches for it, and it's not officially supported anymore you are simply more at risk by default. Of course there are things you can do to mitigate that like your passwords (how you make them) and the browser you use, and clearing cache regularly. Not using an admin account when surfing. Using the malware tools that still work and will also update on XP helps along with a good antivirus that will still work with XP. I mean you can run it, but it's not recommended unless you really know what you are doing. Even if you really know what you're doing you can still get bit if you don't cover your 6 constantly in various ways mentioned above.
