Fresh Win2k8 install?

I'm getting ready to install Win2K8 for the first time and I'm wondering
about disk space. I will be installing it under ESX. I have a network
with 20 users max (currently 10).

My first server will be a domain controller only. No file services or
print services or DHCP services. What would be a good drive size for
it. I hate to install it with 40 gigs if it will end up wasting 30gigs.

My second server will be a sql server. It will only run sql server.
Nothing else. The data will be stored on a second drive. What would
you all recommend for drive space on the main drive though?

  2. Hello Matthew,

Microsoft recommends a 20 GB or greater for a 32 bits system and a 32GB or
greater for a 64 bits system

  3. Hello matthew,

Use at least the minimum hardware settings for 2008:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/system-requirements.aspx

    and for SQL 2008:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx

    and for SQL 2005:
    http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/system-requirements.aspx

    Best regards

  4. Hello matthew,

I don't have experience with ESX, but in MS Virtual server you have to option
to use dynamically expanding virtual hard disk's, so if you configure them
for 40GB they will still use only the actual needed file size and expand
    it up to 40 GB.

    Best regards

  5. Note: If you data will be store second drive that is very good. because any
case you Hard drive damage then your data will be save.
