I have just received an e-mail offering the program below. Is it worth trying or should this sort of thing be avoided?

MaxiDisk is the compact solution to hard disk maintenance. You can:
. Analyse your hard disk for a thorough understanding of what can be defragmented.
. Clean out all unnecessary files consuming hard disk space.
. Compress large files to gain valuable storage space.

Hi I avoid Uniblue like the plague.

Hi just to back up DSTM, I agree, and doubt you will get many different opinions elsewhere from folk who do know.
Any sort of software that promises system performance improvements are not worth the magnetic space they occupy. Snake oil being a popular term, lots of promises from these people pushing their software with no real benefit from any of them.

I agree with DSTM and Plastic Nev. Uniblue will scan your computer and then you have to pay for the results. Forget it.

No way, no how! That is crapware and it wants to take your money.
I have my own list of favorite utilities, and none are the paid versions.
