Post #5 in the Free Alternatives series is Task Managers. All the descriptions have been taken from the relevant websites.
It is impossible for me to test all these apps alone, so any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Any app that you review as being bad will be looked at and removed from the list if necessary. Any app you think should be included, just say so and we will include it.

Chandler runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and was designed for both business and personal use. It is a task manager that allows the user to create notes and add varying levels of detail to those notes. Notes are created by typing in a title in the box at the top of the screen. Chandler gives the user the ability to categorize tasks into three major groups: “Now,” “Later” and “Done.” You can also set “tickler” alarms to alert you about an important, time-sensitive task.

Exstora is a Day planner software, day organizer calendar, planners manager, Personal Organizer

GeeTeeDee is a fancy, lightweight, easy to use and effective task management software. Group tasks. Customizable groups. Drag'n'drop tasks and groups.

Makagiga It's a To-do Manager and a whole lot more: a notepad and widgets (calendar, sticky notes, etc.) and various plugins (image viewer, RSS reader, and more).

MyLifeOrganized (MLO) is a personal task outliner and to-do list manager which will help you to organize your goals, projects and tasks into a tree. The To-Do list with actions that require immediate attention will be generated. This list of next actions will be sorted in order of priority to keep you focused on the most important tasks. MLO is an ideal tool for Getting Things Done.

Org-mode is for keeping notes, maintaining ToDo lists, doing project planning, and authoring with a fast and effective plain-text system. At its core, Org-mode is a simple outliner for note-taking and list management. You can learn the basics for using it in five minutes.

Remember The Milk Take your tasks anywhere with this feature-packed application. See tasks located nearby, add and complete tasks on the go, organize upcoming tasks, and sync it all seamlessly with Remember The Milk. Free download for Pro users! Very good integration in GMail! Access from mobile devices and Google Calendar integration.

Remember The Task is a light-weight Remember The Milk client that allows users to view pending tasks with due dates and add, view and complete tasks.

ReminderFox displays and manages lists of reminders and ToDo's. ReminderFox makes sure you remember all of your important dates via easy-to-use lists, alerts, and alarms, right in your browser without the need for a separate calendar program.

Task Coach is a simple open source todo manager to keep track of personal tasks and todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that most task managers do not provide facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things todo consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with composite tasks. In addition, it offers effort tracking, categories, and notes. Task Coach is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and iPhone and iPod Touch.

Task List Guru is a freeware to-do list manager that stands out from the crowd thanks to two things: 1. Refreshingly rich feature set 2. Super easy to use It is powerful and easy to use at the same time, which is a rare combination - most task list managers are either too primitive or too complex. Task List Guru sports: * Management of both tasks and notes * Inbuilt reminders with great snoozing *

To-Do DeskList Its development was inspired by real situations at work or home when new small to-dos or thoughts come to mind while working and it is not efficient to store them into a complex to-do list software. There are several ways how to handle them though - write them on paper, store them for example in notepad or forget them after a few seconds. Since non of these methods is too efficient To-Do DeskList was made to help with storing such tasks and thoughts into a well-arranged and well designed to-do list in a way as simple and fast as possible.

ToDoList is a rare form of task management tool, one that allows you to repeatedly sub-divide your tasks into more manageable pieces whilst still presenting a clean and intuitive user experience. http://www.abstractspoon.com/

It is that UK - Sweden thing. You would need to follow American politics to get it.
