    Hello,

I would like to downsize the number of fonts that appear when I open certain programs. There are many that I never use. Is it safe to delete those that look like a foreign language or is it safe and better to just hide them? If they are hidden then, does it slow down the computer to keep them? I would love to get rid of them!!
Is there a list of absolutely necessary fonts for Windows 7?

    Thanks.

By certain programs I am assuming you mean programs such as Word or other office type programs. The fonts themselves are not doing anything to slow down your computer. They just sit there taking up a very tiny amount of space. That being said you can hide as many as you want to cut down on the annoyance factor. I see no point in deleting them although you can. There is a setting that will limit the fonts to those usable by your selected language but that really will have almost no effect when it comes to English.

So my suggestion is to simply hide the ones that annoy you or that you know you will never use and they will be eliminated from your drop down menus.

    Thanks for that prompt reply!!
The other programs that I was referring to are PSP and Hallmark.
So, if I just hide them and they are necessary for any program, they will still be available, only I just won't have to scroll through so many....is this correct??

Yep. Now I am not sure if any of these programs have their own library of fonts but I tend to doubt it.

    Hi,
I did hide a number of them but they still show on the drop-downs in those programs. I did it last night, shut down the computer, but this morning they still are showing.
    Thanks.
