OK more than we need to know!

This has no medical significance at all.

Normally thought of being something you find in hospitals as opposed to, for example, a hotel room.

One of the biggest risks, in visiting Hospitals, is Airbourne Bacteria, which abound in Hospital environments. Why not everybody wear face masks.?

I am very hygiene aware, and always carry tissues in my pocket for opening doors, especially in Public Toilets.
I use the tissue to open the door coming out of public Toilets,as the handle must be covered in traces of feces.
I won't touch an Elevator railing under any circumstances.
When I watch the habits of Human Beings,on the whole, they are a dirty lot.

My Wifes works in a large Hospital here, and says don't go to a Hospital, unless your Dying. You are likely to catch somethng altogether different, than what you went in with.:)

while I agree with your observations about airborne disease, this is something that would affect contact as opposed to airborne.

Time to tell us your observation,BeeCeeBee.LOL
I only have a short attention span.
One thing,I avoid when visiting Friends in Hospitals,is to kiss them or touch them, because we can be bringing in Germs, from outside.

    OK Dougie,

I hope this is not disappointing because it is both true and once divulged will appear pretty obvious.

I have seen the tray tables that all patients use to dine all that wonderful hospital food being cleaned by both staff, visitors and parients.

What we never see is anyone actually disinfecting and cleaning the bottom of the table. Yet when a patient draws it near he/she almost always comes into contact with the bottom. I think that the hospitals may be aware of this by now but if you are bringing sprays with you, it should be the first stop.

Now I'm really, really curious - but shall wait patiently! :)

Re: Priority access to pandemic vaccine

(Quote) The World Health Organization says health-care workers should have priority to pandemic vaccine when it becomes available.

The aim is to protect them and to ensure the ability of health-care systems to function at a time when demands are expected to be great. The recommendation comes from a group of experts who advise the WHO on vaccine issues.

The group, known as the SAGE, didn't list other priority groups in any order, saying it is up to individual countries to decide who they want to vaccinate and in what order
    (Unquote).

    Hmmm.

If we pretend that a true pandemic hits that starts to kill hundreds and then thousands upon thousands - can we imagine the pandemonium and civil unrest that would exist.

A shortage of both the vaccine and and shortage of the TamaFlu drug (apparently the only prescription that will help) and our Governments deciding who will live and who will die.

I'd hate to be making the choice.

I am thinking, this is only a tempory decision, till further supplies are available,Mara.
Eventually, I think your whole population, will be vaccinated.

Latest News from the British Isles, is they are planning on vaccinating, the entire population, some 60 Million.

If we ever hit this situation I won't be online much as I'll have disappeared as far away from the populous as possible, stopping off at a few stores to collect the stuff that I would need, and yes in this situation it would be survival of the fittest,

The tray table - I wouldn't have thought of it!

I do hope my Canadian Government is as good when it comes to things like this. I love my Country and it's only our present Government - and the decisions made lately - that has me a tad worried.

At least 1 million Americans have now contracted the novel H1N1 influenza, according to mathematical models prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while data from the field indicates that the virus is continuing to spread even though the normal flu season is over and that an increasing proportion of victims are being hospitalized.

Meanwhile, the virus is continuing its rapid spread through the Southern Hemisphere, infecting increasing numbers of people and at least one pig.

At least 3,065 of those infected in this country have been hospitalized and 127 have died. The very young are most likely to be infected, Finelli said, but older patients seem to suffer more. The average age of swine flu victims is 12, the average age of hospitalized patients is 20 and the average age of those who have died is 37, she said.

Yup, 'swine flu' and swine - poor piggies! :p (Yes, I know the flu has been re-named as it was affecting the reputation of pig farmers).

Perhaps the true danger is, as stated in the that article, "we all know the influenza virus is highly unpredictable and has great potential for mutation" - and if that should happen there would surely be a lot of us running for cover.

Reading "survival of the fittest" was, for me, a reminder that few of us would truly be prepared to survive. Here, living in an earthquake zone, even with constant warnings from our government to be prepared to exist on our own for at least two weeks - when a survey was done, apparently less than 10 percent of our population have emergency supplies (water, food, medical) even for 2 days.

Yup, if that flu virus mutates guess the warnings from the World Health Organization could become reality.

A number of Cadets at the United States Air Force Acadamy were stricken by Swine Flu, none seriously and none hospitalized .

It does, however, make one wonder.............Who said Pigs dont Fly?
