    Hi

My sisters laptop has had this issue for a while maybe always where she cannot update firefox via help..about firefox what happens is it updates then just hangs when you click to try and open it nothing happens just nothing no error messages nothing.

The only way to update is to use an offline update from file hippo for instance.

any ideas what could be happening.

The laptop is an Compaq Presario CQ58

    Hi DSTM,

    Thanks

I think I have solved this or it solved itself this is what I did:

first I used the offline installer for 23.0
then restarted that version in safe mode
used help>about firefox to update to 23.0.1
hey presto it worked did not hang.

    Ok so I now re-installed 23.0 ,
this time I did not go into safe mode
done the the update again to 23.0.1
but I got a Comodo firewall warning about firefox.exe told it to treat it as a Web Browser
    Hey presto it updated

I just have no idea what went on or how it got fixed if it was anything I did or not but all seems ok will wait till the next release to check properly knowing mozilla that should not be long :)

It could well have been a setting in Comodo, it was possible that she refused to allow Comodo to accept a firefox update previously, whatever you did made Comodo ask again to allow the update, which you did so problem solved.
In cases like this with Comodo installed, a search of what it is set to block, or to briefly turn Comodo off, will at least let you know it is Comodo blocking things.

    Hi Nev,

Yeah it is solved, Comodo has since been removed and using the windows firewall on my advice since I did so on my PC :)
