Finally getting around to SP2

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by Mike Szewczyk, Apr 8, 2009.

  1. We subscribe to the "wait and see" when it comes to service packs. Then we
got busy, one thing lead to another and we're here a year later with about a
quarter of our server that are not on SP2.

We have a monthly patching cycle and we're up to date with everything but
SP2. I plan on putting it into our patch cycle this month; however, I want
to reassure our development people before I go ahead.

It's my understanding that, by and large, if I'm up to date on my patches,
SP2 isn't really that big of a deal.

Unfortunately I can't go through the entire SP and compare it to all of the
patches already applied. Is there a document or something that explains what
SP2 will change that has not already been changed through normal updates??

I've read the issues about ADAM and some other things. None of them apply
    to me.

SP2's been pretty stable and robust for us without many issues. Any
issues were resolved with a hotfix or patch but there've been only a
few we'd needed. My recommendation about SP2 is to immediately install
the update to turn off the Scalable Networking Pack (SNP,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948496), which comes with SP2 whether
you like it or not. Update the NIC driver to it's most current version
    afterwards as well.
