FILE SEARCHING: Generally, poorly done by Microsoft - and by many other File Management programs.

Over the years, I've tried a number of programs (often embedded with FM programs) and never really been satisfied with the speed, interface, features, etc.

On occasion, I've left my computer to search for an hour or so, while I found better ways to invest my time.

Recently, I ran across a program that has them all beat: EVERYTHING SEARCH ENGINE

    This program is satisfyingly FAST.

You can find it here: http://www.voidtools.com/

Let me know what you think! :)

    This has been a Public Service Announcement . . . . . .

Yesterday, I reloaded EVERYTHING on my new 1TB drive.

I left it set to the default - load with Windows.

If I double-click on it in the Tray, it takes nearly a second to appear with all of the files on my computer displayed. Typing any search term results in an instantaneous display of files - letter by letter, as I type.

To talk about being faster .... would be rather meaningless.

It creates a Cache, but it updates extremely fast.

Another nice thing, is that it's not just a dumb list of files - you can right-click and perform the whole range of actions: copy, move, open, etc.

I should clarify: This is strictly a file search - not a content search.

    Question
: I have used Google Desktop off and on. I've heard it said that it exercises your hard drive a lot and may shorten its life.

    What are your feelings??

Now, I AM using the Search (content) built into Windows 7 and rather like that. Probably would have pretty much the same issue with drive activity, tho.

My friends and myself wouldn't be without "Everything"

It has saved me countless times,in searching for stuff.

You can open the path, and it takes you to where a file, is situated.

Tells you what Drive it is on,and I often delete from it, directly.

    One amazing Free Program. :)

This is so true. I have six HDDs totalling well over 2 TBs of storage and EVERYTHING finds what I want as fast as I can type in the search.

This programme is truly amazing and I urge everyone to give it a try. (Too good to be true??? - this one really is a must have).

    Cheers
