There are pictures appearing in my picture folders with name favicon and a big red X , over 10 of them. What are these "favicon" 'non-pictures anyway? I deleted them but then the picture squares were there. There are about 24 of them. I restored them so still there. See uploaded file.
Do I need this? If not how do I get rid of it?

favicons are the images that websites put in your browser when you bookmark a site.
This is my favicon for the browser Vivaldi. If you can't see it, that means you have nothing specified to view png files.
Some favicons have the extension .ico

I do not know why I need to save these in the first place. Is there a reason?

Well, if you get rid of them, everything will have a generic looking icon.
I don't know about you but I don't want all my programs and browsers to look the same.

This got me thinking. You no longer have a quick launch bar. Could it be because you removed all the favicons that were on that bar?
