It very much depends on how you use it. And how you set it up. Facbook is always a target for for doers of dastardly deeds and you need to be careful of your privacy settings.

If you want to exchange files with just one or two persons and chat I suggest Skype as an alternative.

I don't think I would be too keen on using facebook for sharing photos unless your not bothered who sees them, as a message board for keeping in touch with your friends its invaluable, and if your bored and feeling nosey its great for seeing what you can find by getting round its "Security" but I definitely wouldn't put anything personal on it :) because of people like me.

another consideration is the content of the pictures, nothing like advertising the contents of your living room, then on the next picture advertising the front of your house, especially if their is a road sign in the background, or some distinctive land mark, in fact with a few pictures and the help of google maps its quite easy to locate the address of someone who's no to security concious, then all you have to do is wait for a comment like "I won't be around for a while I'm going away" and any would be thief who took an interest in the 42" plasma screen TV in the background of your birthday pictures has all the info he needs.

I won't say don't use it, because I do, but I am very careful what I put on it as their security is useless.

I also use it but would never put any personal photos or photos that I did not want to be copied or used in some way by someone else. I have no faith in their security either, and am always amazed at how peple treat it as a sort of photo album.
