The ports have power but are not being detected as a mouse or keyboard. I currently can't configure the BIOS as neither the mouse or keyboard work, it may be easiest to just buy an PS/2 Keyboard or an adapter.

A ps2 keyboard and mouse is handy to have. Have you tried the top black ports at the rear of your tower?

Try plugging the keyboard in quickly just after you press the start button. Does the keyboard light come on?

Did you ever get into the BIOS? If not try unplugging the mouse and just use the keyboard. If that didn't work or if you have been in the BIOS, reset the bios and try again.

Thats good news. Once I had to do that and it worked for me.
What OS do you plan to install?
Most OS's come with usb2 drivers already installed so once you insert the Install disc as long as you have the mouse and keyboard connected to USB2 (black Ports) you shouldn't have a problem.
Once you have installed your OS then install your motherboard chipset drivers next.
I normally need to do that to get a lan connection. (internet)
    Good luck.

Thanks for the help guys, got my OS imstalled and now the USB ports work fine. Since my desk isn't anywhere near a place to plug an ethernet connector into I attempted to connect via Wi-Fi and despite all drivers being installed I was unable to connect.

Best to wait for Tony D or one of the other Techies.
Wi Fi is not my forte.

If you're unable to connect to your wireless network, try turning off the password protection (temporarily) on your router. Then try to connect to the network. If successful, then you have a problem with the password.

I'm assuming that your computer shows you have good signal strength.
