Windows has been automatically trying to updpate my computer with
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 service pack 1 and .Net Framework 3.5
Family update (kb951847)x86. It fails to complete the installation and
gives me the error code 8004100A.
Can anyone tell me in language I would understand what this means, how
important it is and what, if anything I can do about it?

    Thank you.

    Gerry

    Gerry,

See if the information in this MSKB is pertinent:

Error message when you try to install updates in Windows Vista, and the
    installation may fail: "WBEM_E_CRITICAL_ERROR (0x8004100A)"

If no joy run the: .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool

IF the Verification Tool reports that either the .NET 2 or 3 runtime is
not installed properly: How to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 on
    Windows Vista

If still no joy, then contact Aaron:
