    Hi,

I have just had major surgery performed on my HP Pavillion desktop PC (new hard drive, new motherboard etc.).

I used to be able to play DVDs on this system (I cannot remember what it used) but now when I insert a DVD into the drive I don't seem to be getting any options to play it.

I have tried going into file explorer but all I get then is a lot of VTS.VOB files which won't play.

Can anyone advise as I have many DVDs which I would like to be able to play on this PC.

    Regards,
    Vavaseur

We need to know what version of Windows and the hardware but I can take a guess and suggest you download and install VLC Player and then try to play them with this.

Did they reinstall all of the software back onto the computer or just Windows and I hope the drivers.

Look for something in the start menu.
    Cyberlink
    PowerDVD

There are others but for some reason at this time my mind just went on strike.

I am using Windows 10. I actually already have that media player and it does work so thanks for that. Problem solved.

Yeah Windows 10 on a clean install has no ability to play a DVD. However if it's an upgrade (in place) from Windows 8 or Windows 7 Windows Media Player will still play a DVD. Sadly DVD software players are going by the wayside because of online media, however at least we stil have Cyberlink (PowerDVD), VLC, WinDVD (now owned by Corel I believe) , and there are a few others out there as well.

I install VLC on every new OS install. Has it's own codecs and will play just about anything.

    Ain't that the truth!

VLC is usually the 1st thing I install after an AV (if I use 3rd party) and MWB. Then comes my beloved VLC player :)
