Download will not resume past ISP limit

    SP4 is installed already.

Being on dialup, I normally use smaller downloads. My ISP requires a 4 hour
cutoff, I can then reconnect and continue online.

Tried to download Service Pack 5, 231 MB, very large for dialup.

I use various downloader utilities, all of them resume downloads OK, as
long as it is within the original 4 hour ISP limit. At 4 hours, I get a
partial download of about 65 MB. But when I reconnect, none of them will
resume this download at that point, all say "Server will not permit resume
    download".

I called my ISP, their main technical geek says the ISP has no restriction
beyond the 4 hour limit. They say it is a windows limitation, ??

Is there any setting in W2000 that can effect resuming downloads?

Whoa! There is a SP5 for Windows 2000?

If you use an instant messaging, some of them can transfer a GB or more.
So someone could break it up with WinZip or something. And you could get
it that way. Or Microsoft could send you a CD for about 10 bucks. At
least that is all it used to cost.

I am sure you have a good reason to be on dialup. Although do you mind
    sharing why?

By the way, I believe that techno geek is full of it.

You bring up an interesting point, about SP 5.

I ran a scan utility, with the result that I searched, saw a reference
that SP 5 included a fix for closing those ports. I searched for SP 5 and
Softpedia had this, with 50K users, I felt it was safe.

Microsoft Windows 2000 Unofficial SP5 combines 403 hotfixes into a single
hotfix - fully automated. It's not just a matter of determining file
versions, there's much more to it. The Microsoft Windows 2000 Unofficial
SP5 interface is very easy to use since it's identical to a normal
    Windows update setup

    Comment?

I also felt it very unlikely that this is a windows restriction, but need
    to ask here.

As to dialup, I can do nearly everything (except above) I need in
computing with small, no-install non-Microsoft programs. I rarely have
issues, and one reason is when dialup is disconnected, it is really off.
This plan has worked fine for more than 10 years of daily internet use.

SP5 for a non-supported product in the very near future?

As plainly stated, it's the _Server_ NOT the client, that isn't configured
for resumption of downloads given the specific byte offset that you've
    already downloaded.

If a server will permit resumption of partial downloads, nothing beats
"wget -c $URL". You can get wget and any number of GUI frontends for free
    from

Don't have an answer for that, but why don't you have a friend dl and burn a
    cd for you?

Thanks, yes, I found a friend with wideband, it took 10 minutes for him.

Apparently MS never officially released a Service Pack 5, but 50,000
people downloaded this file, 128 reported it as useful. Looks like no one
    here has used it.
