    Hi people,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be writing this question but here goes anyway...

I have a lot of documents saved onto my usb. My documents were fine until I went to a friends to print them off and discovered that the file type on my documents has changed from Microsoft word document to screen saver. Nothing on my computer will open the file. I ran a Nortons scan and it found a Trojan which it then resolved but yet they are still saved as screen savers! please help....

yeah all my files already have ".doc" on the end but I renamed one of them anyway just to check but its still a "scr" file type even though the names have ".doc" on the end. Thanks for the reply :)

You say the documents were saved to USB.
    USB external Hard Drive?
I presume these documents are still on your Computer as well?
If they are, are they opening correctly?

Just a 8GB USB stick. Some of these documents are still on my computer and they are opening correctly.
When I try to open the one's on my USB stick it says that "this app cant run on your pc"

    Thanks :)

    Your Welcome. :)
I have a feeling you may have malware hidden on your system and possibly on your Flash Drive.
Download "Malwarebytes Free" and run a long scan on your Operating system, prefer in Safe Mode.
Then hook up your Flash Drive and run a long normal scan on that USB drive.
Please post back what it finds. Thanks.

okay thanks. Will this malwarebytes interfere with my Nortons at all? I ran a scan on my USB stick earlier today when I was having trouble with my documents and nortons says it found a Trojan of some sorts but it was quarantined... is this the same sort of thing Malware is? or is that something different? sorry I don't know much about viruses

Hi Switch Norton off while you run these scans.
I wouldn't have Norton anywhere near my computers.
There are better Anti Virus programs that are Free.
