    Hello everyone,

I have a problem that I have yet to figure out. My display driver stops responding for a few seconds then recovers, however within 30 seconds to a minute it's back to not responding again. I'm on a Gateway, and the display adapter is a ATI Radeon Xpress 1150. I read around online before posting here, and some say driver, some say heat issue. I checked the driver, and I have the latest one from ATI. I checked the temp, and all temps seem to be within the right range. I guess the strange part to this problem is that it only happens on YouTube. No other site with videos effects the computer, it's only YouTube that I've found so far. Could it be possibly YouTube? I doubt that since millions of people use it everyday it seems with no problems. So, what could it be? I have checked everything I know to check, the only thing I haven't done is re-install Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

That is a hard thing to actually know just by observation. Are you certain that the video is not just buffering? Also have you checked your flash player to make certain that it is up to date?

Well I updated the flash player, and one video on YouTube played fine the next video it started all over again. I am completely lost on this one. I appreciate the input on the flash update I hadn't even thought of that one. Maybe I should just stay away from YouTube since it seems to be the only thing so far to cause the problem. Got any other ideas? I'm up for trying anything.

    Hi codywelch66.

A lot of youtube videos buffer badly.

I suggest you select "Pause" and let them load completely first, before viewing.

Also run this Flash Player test to make sure you have Flash Player installed properly.

Normally when your display driver stops working, your screen will go black for a few seconds, and then will flash back on, with windows giving some kind of notice telling you that the display adapter or drivers stopped working. Does this happen to you?

Yeah that's what happens the screen flashes black then it comes back up for about a minute then does it again. It's still only with YouTube though maybe I should cut off some of the aero effects in Windows see if that helps.

It sounds to me like your having problems with the AERO built into Vista.

When you uninstall the driver, go to add/remove programs
    uninstall the display driver
    Reboot/Restart
Download the latest driver (checking it is definatley the right one) save it to the desktop
    install the new driver
    Reboot/Restart

^ if you have done this then its either a specific issue with the driver or with the flash (so again go through the above procedure for reinstalling flash)

Sorry for the late reply been busy lately. I did what you mentioned and the problem still persists. I noticed tonight though that it only does it when I go preview an item on the taskbar when the preview window pops up that's when the driver stops working, and it does that every single time. Still don't know the true issue cause this just started has never done it before. Thanks for the help.

I have checked and installed the latest versions of everything, and just a few minutes ago it went to a blue screen of death for the first time. I couldn't read anything on it just knew what it was from the blue background none of the text showed up though. What's left out there that could be causing this?

You could try Safe Mode, tapping F8 repeatedly on startup.

May take more than 1 try to get it right.

Once in Safe Mode using the arrow keys,

Scroll down to the entry marked "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure" and click "Enter"

Next time your OS Blue Screens you should be able to read any messages or HEX CODE.

    Carefully record and post these.

They normally give us some idea what is responsible for Blue Screening.

    Dalo should be onsite shortly.

I have done that, and have since installed Google Chrome. I was using Firefox during the whole problem I was having, so I decided to switch browsers to see if that would have any effect. So far, it has been successful every YouTube video I watch plays without a hitch. I don't know if this is a temporary solution, or what. Any thoughts if Firefox may have been the problem?

The only thing I can add then, is your version of Firefox up to date, to find out click on "Help" then "About Mozilla Firefox" if it is up to date you should see "Version 3.6.15"
    If not click on updates.

The next thing would be a complete removal of Firefox and then reinstall. Be aware your personal Firefox profile will still be there unless removed separately.

I was watching YouTube tonight, and it went back to it's old tricks. I thought the problem was solved, but it's reared it's ugly head again. So, it seems Firefox was not the issue as it's now doing it with Chrome. Has yet to go to blue screen yet, but I know it's only a matter of time. Thank you all for your help.

Does this problem only occur on YouTube? Or does it occur on other video streaming sites?

Try going here and viewing this video. It is hosted by Google's own video server/site, not through YouTube, this may help us narrow down the possibility of it being YouTube, videos, flash content or your system that is causing the problem.

Apologies for the video content, it was the first thing that came to my mind =P. woof woof.

Have you tried Firefox in safe mode? Maybe its one of the (if you have any) addons or extensions thats causing the problem.

Yeah it's just YouTube. I tried the video you suggested, and other videos on that site and no problems worked fine. All other sites I go to that have flash content whether it be games, or just animations on websites I have no problems. I switched to Chrome recently, and same problem persists. I am out of ideas. I enjoy solving these problems with computers, but now it's just getting annoying. I don't know what else to do.

Yeah so I'm late to the party, but, i confirm this it is an issue with aero/drivers and olny happens with firefox actualy in this case the PaleMoon version of firefox, PaleMoon 12. Chrome does not exhibit this problem. videos play fine in PaleMoon except for 1080p. Chrome plays 1080p flawlessly.

It is most defintly a software issue and not hardware. I promise i'm not taling out of my ####, i work on laptops quite a bit doing reflows and screen replacments and almost always our relfows are gfx problems, in this case it acts nothing like an over heating/reflow problem. it is instantly replicatable and only under the right cirumstances, ie firefox, youtube videos and aero.

i would like to further describe the problem as full screen 720p with aero popped up (plugging in flash drive or hitting windows key) other wise it's fine except for the rare hiccup or driver stop response. again Chrome does not exereince this problem under the same circumstances.

EDIT: Chrome and firefox (palemoon) have the same extensions, AdblockPlus and SearchPreview. with the exception of firefox having the one extra plugin [download status bar].
I am also usingthe these drivers
