In about the last 2 months 9 GB,s of storage has gone from my hard drive. Nothing new added to the computer except windows updates. I did have an issue with my restore points disappearing and system restore not working. I fixed that and created a new restore point. Does anybody have an idea where the space has gone or was taken up by.

It is probably being taken up by your system restore points.

Thanks for the reply. Only 2 restore points show in system restore. System protection is set a 1% (10GB). Usage shows 7.84 GB. That's just about what I am missing. Should I delete the system protection usage?

I wouldn't delete your restore points or the amount of space allocated for it unless you absolutely need the room.
How big is your HDD, are you running low on space?

I have a 1TB drive with showing only 6% used. But that is really 9% or more used. It is not an issue about not enough space it is why all of a sudden the space just keeps going down. Never did that before. If I try to change any setting in system protection when I click on the apply or ok button I get this. Unexpected error in property page. Syntax is incorrect. Error 0x8007007B.

The error 0x8007007B occurs when the system is set to store restore points to a wrong path or location.
Set the proper restore point path in Windows 7.
