Digital Image Importer For Windows 7 64bit

I find Microsoft Picture It doesnt work with windows 7. Anybody suggest a free Digital Image Importing software to import pictures from Kodak 260 digital camera to WIndows 7? XP had MS Digital Image Import Wizard.

 

I'm not a graphics expert, but my windows 7 has a native importer for use with a camera. It activates when I plug in the camera USB connection. Maybe not the greatest but works every time I try it. Connect the USB to the computer and the camera and then power on the camera. Windows sounds an alert and the program opens.

 

Checked it again. It TRIED but cannot find driver. Give a long list of what to do. I dint proceed further at the time. I searched for free downloads and tried a Picture It which wouldnt work with W7 it said but gave a 2001 and 2007 I believe. Got too complicated and late so I quit for time being. I can import to w98 and to XP and use USB drive to transfer but I would like to phase into the Windows 7 PC and need an importer. Until better solution I will continue to search for a driver. It DI try though, like you said, but there was no driver on PC apparently. File is Gallery2Library and maybe not correct but I set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 to see if that helps.
Actually maybe I need to download something different.

 

When I plug camera USB into computer the Autoplay dialog does not appear.

 

I have always used Irfanview BG. It is a freebie packed with a lot of features rivaling expensive photo imaging software and of course it is free.

On Windows 7, even if autoplay does not appear, firstly open an explorer window, then in the left hand column it should appear as a new drive and given a drive letter. Click on the arrow at the side of the new drive and it should show the contents, I don't know what they are as I don't have your camera. However the content and pictures should eventually show on the right hand side. You can then easily click and hold on each picture or image and drag across to whatever folder or place you want for pictures.

I think this camera is so old they have have stopped making drivers for it. I found W7 has Roxio Burn which lets me copy a DVD movie to HD then to a blank DVD. But it says it only functions a limited time the I get to BUY it not for $100 but for ONLY $50. But, I really only need it ONCE. If not will find another way.
And if i can find Picture IT old version like 2001 I think it will import the pictures. Version 9 would not unless I had a previous version already. Tricky, these software people.

 

IRFANVIEW: I tried Irfanview and whatever I try including Irfanview, the camera does not seem to get detected when I plug in USB and turn it on and set it to connect. Dont understand why the digital camera is not seen.

 

Believe will have to give up on this. Camera must just be too old for W7. Fine on 98 and XP though.

 

The camera is not too old for Windows7. You are doing something wrong.
Another option is to buy a cheap card reader and use that. I do.

 

I never plug cameras into computers, for one thing it drains the battery at a high rate. For another a $10 card reader requires no software whereas most cameras do, Dougie is quite right.

I agree about the card reader Dougie and Rich, and I was a bit concerned BG when you said you were plugging the camera directly into the computer. A problem on the computer coud go into and damage the camera. I always use the card reader, it is actually quicker to get working too as it can sometimes take a little time for the computer to recognise the camera, and the camera to recognise it is plugged in, before any pictures can be seen or copied over.
Mind you I am lucky as the card reader is built in to my desktop and also there is one on my laptop as well.

Good idea !. Never knew about the card reader. The camera MUST work with USB for that is what I have always plugged it into before.

 

BTW, how do these card readers work? Are you saying they transfer the pictures from camera to a folder without needing any software?

 

Actually the Gateway XP laptop HAS a memory card reader but I never knew about it or how to use it. The Dell has a port called SD MMS MC on the front edge and a port called HDMI on left side. Got things I never knew I had.

 

Yep...It does work. But for Dell M5040 I will need a USB reader for dont see a port for this.

 

Card readers you can buy, most plug into a USB port BG.
