desktop error message

Hi, i'm currently using Windows XP Home Edition. recently when i start up my
computer, I am gettng error messages. i have an example below



windows cannot find "[][][][][]". make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. to search for a file, click the start
button, and then click search.


i had to use brackets in the descpription, but the error message actually contains boxes. i don't understand what the boxes are. also there is a similar message after i cancel this one and it contains two boxes. i have to cancel each message 4 times. i'm stumped. any help woul dbe much appreciated.
