Ok folks. I tried running sfc /scannow in safe mode with CMD.And it said the same as the last screen shot. Even with the win7 CD.

I also tried running it in normal computer mode with the CD in and the screen shot im posting is what I got....

    Any ideas?

You are not running the proper command window. If you see C:\users\ etc. You are in the wrong command window and there is no point in trying to make it work. If you follow the path that I have given you above the command line will be C:\windows\system32> I will try to make my directions more clear. You do not need to run in safe mode and I am not all that sure that you can.

    Again;
1 Open the Start menu and go to "All Programs"
    2. Scroll down to "accessories" and find "command Prompt?"
    3. Do not open Command Prompt!!!!!!!
    4. Right click on Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator"

Now that should open the proper window to run scannow. If you see the prompt I gave you above you will know you are in the right place. The Command prompt window will say Administrator Command Prompt.

DSTM meant the CBS.log that was created after running the sfc /scannow command, but I'd leave it because as far as I can see the log won't be too much use as it will only confirm what is known already, that some files are corrupt in the operating system.

Best to continue by booting onto the Windows 7 disc and select the language options after entering that click the "Repair your computer" option in the bottom left of the screen, you should then be able to follow the process through, any problems do ask.

I ran scf /scannow under admin mode. And the screen shot I posted is what i got. If i reboot my computer with the win7 disk in it will start installing win7 again. I would like to get around not totally "reinstalling" windows on my computer if I can. If I run "repair" will it fix my missing, corrupt files?

I would run the repair and see if it replaces your corrupt files.

I think you just might be using a recovery disk that either came with the computer or one you made yourself when the computer was new. If that is the case it will not work. You need a full windows 7 disk.
If I am wrong please ignore me, but just thought it best to mention just in case.

    Nev.

Alright. I know Im gonna sound like a COMPLETE idiot, if I havent already. But I popped the win7 disk in. Which I know 101% its the original win7 disk. And it started reinstalling windows. There was NO repair. I believe there was a custom, but there was no repair. What am I doing wrong?

Hi. Study this tutorial carefully first and you will see the repair option in step 6. It gives you the option to repair your computer, then follow the options.

    You prob stopped too soon.
This is step 6 in the link.

Ok This screen came up! But there was NO repair your computer. It looked just like that, but it said the install now, and what to know before installing windows. That was the ONLY two links to click on.

But, tomorrow when I go home, I will TRY again. Im at work again so I cant do it here (obviously)

Ok I got the repair to show up. I ran "start- up repair" and also "windows memory diagnostics repair"

Start up repair came up with no problems found. But said if I have plugged in any new devices such as a camera, webcam, ect then restart and try again. Which I tried running start up repair AGAIN but I took out everything except for my mouse, keyboard, and ethernet cord. My speakers, webcam, headphones, printer, ect were all taken out. And the same message appeared. No problems found

Under the "windows memory diagnostics tool" it scanned for about 20 mins (in 2 steps) and nothing was found either...

Same problem continues, I still have a few files that are missing... Such as my sound settings and a few programs Ive downloaded awhile back...

Im almost thinking to download a driver for my sound settings, and just reinstalling the programs that are missing. But I want to make sure the computer is running right...

If you didn't update or install drivers for a few weeks or for a week or so before this problem started then it would unlikely be a driver issue, with the startup repair not doing anything and a quick test of the RAM not showing anything either, in my opinion it is looking more and more like a possible HDD failure ot far from failing.

I'd wait for someone else to post again as well to see if they think of anything else that I haven't, as a precaution back up your photos and documents if you haven't already.

I agree with Woodyblade, it does sound like your hard drive is beginning to fail.

Hi sorry for the late reply, the sound drivers didn't look to be missing when you posted a screenshot of device manager, but yep they should restore the sound settings if they aren't working at the moment.
