Alright so I don't think the power settings worked since I came home from work today (again) and my screen was back to being black for no reason. The computer wasn't over heating since it's pretty chilly out. Not sure what to do at this point.

The screen was black was the system still on?

What are the power setting set to?

There are other places that can be configured for power savings. Some can be found in the Device Manager.

Some thing else I just thought of how old is this system? Are you leaving it plugged into with power and is the battery still inserted? If not then the power brick may be getting over heated and cutting out. Replaced mine with another OEM and that corrected the issue.

Even if the battery is in the computer is it getting charged. When the power brick goes out then it runs off the battery and when it get low enough it auto powers off the system.

Yes the screen was black but the system was still running cause I could hear the fans lightly.

If there are some changes in the Device Manager, could you show me some steps on what to change there? (graphics, screen, etc.)

The system was bought last December near Christmas so it's only about 6 months old. And yes, I do keep it plugged in at all times since unplugging it makes it lose FPS in games because it wants to conserve power.

I also forgot to mention that when I came home and rebooted it, the computer was at the Dell logo when at the bottom it said Scanning and Repairing Hard Drive? Not sure if this has anything to do with it but it was the first time I've ever seen the message.

Since it is still under warranty why not contact them that way if something needs to be replaced it get done before it is to late.

Was there any message that showed if it passed?

Lets check the Hard Drive to see if there are any bad sectors.

    Run CHKDSK trough Command Prompt

    1. Open an elevated Command Prompt (Press the Windows + X button at the same time, then choose Command Prompt (Admin))

    2. Type the following command, and replace the X with the drive letter you wish to scan: “CHKDSK X:”, we suggest you use “CHKDSK X: /R /F”, only then it can correct errors.

    3. Hit the enter key, Command Prompt will now start CHKDSK.

So I tried entering this and it came up with "cannot open volume for direct access". Not sure where to go from here if it gives me this.

And yes I think it did pass but, I dont think it did anything since when I was eating dinner just now it had shut off.

You ran the CHKDSK /R /F correct?

This command depending on the size of HDD can take a few hours and has to reboot the system prior to running.

Yes, it only gives me that :

The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

I typed in "Y" to say I wanted it to check it, but when i rebooted it didn't do anything.

Press the windows key and R will bring up the run command.

    Type "eventvwr.exe" and press enter

Click on Application then look on the right side for under source for winlogin (find and use the most recent one).

    Double click on winlogin

Do not worry about it I work with different operating system and each handles the command differently.

OK now that my mind is caffeined up.Select Windows Logs then on the right side double click Applications.

    from there:

Look under source for winlogin (find and use the most recent one).

Note: There may be more than one see if you can find the one that closely matches the one that I have include with the newest date and time.

    Double click on winlogin

    Hi,

It appears you have several issues going on with your 6-month-old PC. The tools below will help us to diagnose these issues with your Dell. Please do the following so we can see exactly what you have going there.

You will need to print out these instructions for a reference or you can
save them by copying and pasting them into notepad and saving the text file to the desktop

Please download MiniToolBox , save it to your desktop and run it.

    Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
    List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

    Next

    Scan with Speccy

Please download and install Speccy by Piriform.

    Note: You can opt-out the Google Toolbar installation if you want;

    • Right-click the icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    • Go to File and select Publish Snapshot.
    • Click Yes, copy provided link and select Close.
Please paste here the aforementioned link for our review.

In your next reply, please include these log(s):

Still reading some of the log information.

Under the power setting I see that Hibernate is active. Which would explain why the screen is going black.

How to Enable or Disable Hibernate in Windows 10

Read the top part explaining what Hibernation is and select Option Four and follow the instruction. As always if you get stuck let us know we are here to help.

Allowing the computer to system to suspend or sleep is not a bad thing. If you are going to be away for a short duration of time. If for a long duration of time it is always good plan to power the system off to allow it to rest and cool off.

NOTE: Never put the system in suspend/sleep and then put in a case. It is still on and running so it is still creating some heat. Issue is there is no air circulation where they system can cool.

Alright, I did the settings but I'm not sure if they will work. My computer shut off again today while I was in the middle of using it ( playing a video game) so I don't see how it could want to hibernate.
