    Hi!

I did a system restore on my inspiron today and afterwards it went straight to the login screen for windows 7. The administrator password is disabled and, obviously, my previous user account is gone.

After the restore, it shows the screen saying "Setting up your computer for the first time" or something like that, and then goes to the login screen.

I've tried activating the administrator rights from the command prompt, no luck.

Ive seen this problem (or similar ones) here: http://computerhelpforums.net/topic/40483-restoring-dell-inspiron-620/
so i was hoping I could get some help. The dell customer support is less than helpful (that is, unless you want to hand them cash hand over fist)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To cover the simple first... did you try logging on without any entry in the password field, just hitting enter?

Yes, and it comes up with a box that says
"Windows security: Enter user name and password"

as additional information, in safe mode it brings me to the same screen, also, it wont boot at all with a recovery disk.

When I did the system restore, it had the option for the datasafe recovery, but no option for the factory image recovery.

Then I would assume that it is looking for the user name and password from when you set up the datasafe.

Your answers are a little confusing. What exactly did you do, if there wasn't any option for the factory
image recovery and you never set up datasafe recovery? Have you tried following these instructions from
the Dell Windows 7 PC Restore?
