Here's a little something to drag us away from broken computers for a while. I have always enjoyed crossword puzzles, and CHF have been kind enough to compile this starter puzzle for us with a view to making it a regular thing. Don't know how often yet, as we are reliant on the compiler, which at the moment is just one person.
So, if any of you guys out there enjoy doing crossword puzzles, then please don't be shy about posting your thoughts in this thread.
And if you are a compiler yourself, or would like to become one, then that would be great! You can either PM me or post in this thread. All puzzles will have to be checked out by a member of staff for their content and accuracy before posting on the forum.
To download the puzzle, just right click on the image and choose "Save Image".
The clues can be copied and pasted into your own word program.
A link to the solution for this first puzzle will be posted in this thread in about a week from now.

I think it a great idea PseFrank as I love a challenge.
Once you get a few it becomes easier.
One a week would suit me.
    It has captivated my attention.
I printed out the image and the text.:)

My printer is duff on printing black, any other colour is OK but these Kodak things have a separate print head assembly and seems the black section has died.
Anyway, considering that, unless I choose to print it in red, bue or brown, then no go at the moment, so for now have stored the crossword and am filling it in using the text facility in Photofiltre, just to be different, after all it is for fun.
So thanks for the idea Frank and what a good one.
If I do get it all done then will post it as a picture at the end of the week anyway.

    Nev.

Thanks for giving it a go Nev, and you said it. It is for a bit of fun. I will ask one favour of you though, please don't post the finished puzzle until after I've posted the solution. I'll be doing that on Sunday morning UK time. It's just that I want to give as many members as possible a chance to complete the puzzle before the solution is revealed.

Thanks to everyone for giving it a go...

No problem Frank as that is why I said I will not post till the end of the week, meaning I will not spoil it for others till you post the final solution.
Knowing my luck I will get some wrong any way, I am like the Irish feller who saw the clue :- "To egg on", so he wrote "Toast."

Hum, I did try some soot mixed with water DSTM, is that not going to work?

    Nev.

    7. No, don't take the long way round. (5)(3)

    My apologies for the mistake....:bnghd:

You asked if anyone wants to compile a crossword of their own, are there any set rules as in does it have to be on computer based things or just plain ordinary general knowledge?
Can it be also specialised but in a different area, such as entertainment as in film or TV program and music, wildlife and nature, general science, or other more specialised subjects, but at least where folk should have some knowledge?
Just asking so we all know.
Thanks for the last one though and though I didn't complete it, it twisted the old brain cells into doing some work.

    Nev.

Anything goes Nev. The only rules are ones that would be covered by the forum rules anyway. It would be great if a few of us can have a go...

PS. I'm going to be away until the end of the week. If anyone has questions about this thread, contact DSTM, and I'm sure he'll be able to help out. Thanks Dougie..;)
