Creating new profile cures login delay...

    Hi,

    Win2003R2 domain network.

From time to time local users on our network experience very long logon
delays despite that their roaming profiles are just a few megabytes.

We cure this by renaming their profile both locally and at the server
and the next time they log on, a new profile is created. Now they log
on within seconds. We then manually copy the most important profile
data from the old to the new and 'cured' profile.

How can we avoid having to create a new profile in this cases? Doesn't
it exist a profile cleanup tool or a diagnostic tool which can tell us
why some users need minutes to log in?

    Thanks for comments and tips

This shouldn't be happening at all. What's in the event logs? Are you
running the latest User Profile Hive Cleanup Utility on all workstations?
    (you should).

I would also suggest you post the output of an ipconfig /all from one of
your DCs and one of your problem workstations.

  3. Is the cleanup utility a MS product?
I do not recall MS having one.

    TIA

Yup, and since I've been using it on all my desktops I've seen far fewer
    instances of profile corruption.<!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue <!--/coloro-->

Did you see my request to post the output of an unedited ipconfig /all?

That's what we need to see.

Long logon delays, such as when it's saying 'preparing network connetions'
and other messages, is due to DNS. Without an ipconfig /all on your part
(preferrably from a DC and from one of your client machines), as requested
by Lanwench, we will be trying to guess what the problem is. The ipconfig
provides numerous details. Once posted, we can evaluate the configs, and
make appropriate recommendations and suggestions and go from there.
Ipconfigs are extremely helpful and paramount for troubleshooting this type
    of complaint.
