create shortcuts to control panel applets

Discussion in 'Windows Home Server' started by John A Grandy, Oct 14, 2009.

  1. Windows Server 2008 R2

( and I assume this question applies equally well to Windows 7 )

I am accustomed to creating desktop shortcuts to various Control Panel
applets such as Programs and Network.

I can't figure out how to do this in Windows Server 2008 R2

The applet formerly known as Add / Remove Programs is:
    %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\APPWIZ.CPL
    Network Connections is:
    %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\NCPA.CPL
Most but not all of your .CPLs and .MSCs are in SYSTEM32.

In 2008, you can set these as Group Policy Preferences, so you do not have
    to create them manually.

Can't you just drag and drop them onto the desktop?
