It all started with a complete system freeze while playing Team Fortress 2 on Windows 7.

I restarted my computer, and I couldn't even get it to POST. I removed all hardware except one stick of RAM. Still wouldn't post. After reading online, I found some suggestions to reset the CMOS on the motherboard under the current hardware conditions. This worked, but upon getting to the windows load screen, my monitor went blank. After waiting a while, nothing happened. I powered it down, turned it back on, and it wouldn't even display the BIOS splash screen, POST information, nothing.

Now, if I don't reset the CMOS and I let it go through the BIOS splash screen, through to the boot process, it wants to start the windows catastrophic recovery process. Offers Safe Mode, etc. None of the options given do anything. I've tried using the Windows installation disc to try to repair drivers/critical system files, and it has the DOS-style loading bar at the bottom, but after that, nothing.

Any help would be appreciated, I am really at my wits end. I've spent way too much time on this computer, trying to self diagnose. I fear for the worst...that my motherboard is toast.

    Thanks in advance.

    coggas,

Sorry to hear of your problem. I'm not even going to try to make a guess. Our Tech Specialists are your best bet! We're a bit spread about the globe, so help comes as time zones permit.

At the risk of seeming to trivialize your problem ... you are aware of the impending arrival of Halloween, I trust. :yikes:

Hi coggas and I'm popping in to add my welcome too - glad to have you here with us at Computer Help Forums!

Really do hope that your mother board isn't "toast" - yikes! Yup, will be hoping and hoping that our Experts can figure out what's going wrong and that it's easy fixed instead.

Noticed in the Profile that you are very experienced in using a Computer but if you did ever need to ask addition questions or clarification when instructions are given, our Experts here are always happy to help and have scads of patience while doing it. So please feel comfortable posting here, including in any of other other computer sections or our social area - you'll always welcome, coggas!

Thanks, guys, I really appreciate it.

I think some specs on my computer might help, now that I think about it.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
    8GB DDR2 800
NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT 512MB Video Card
600 Watt Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227078) Had to replace it recently, a brown out killed my last one.

And yeah, I'd consider myself very experienced in most things computer related...but when it comes to hardware troubleshooting, I'm terrible!
