When i try and copy or move a video that i just downloaded, to my 'western digital' external drive it doesn't finish copying. The green progress bar just stops moving and it sais, 5 seconds until the copy is complete, but i walk away from my computer and come back in an hour and the progress bar still hasn't moved. I tried copying the same file to my normal internal drive and it worked fine. Why is this happening?

Hi Bloby22. The first thing I would do is check the External HDD for bad Sectors.

Run this Diagnostic Test for WD Drives.

There are 2 other issues that enter my mind. Western Digital external drives often come with some useless software already installed. I have deleted all of it from mine but there seems a possibility that it may be interfering.

Are you sure that the file has not copied. Does it appear at all on the drive? Have you tried a simple drag and drop?

(All this assumes that you found no errors )

It does appear on the drive but i cant play the file.
Drag and drop worked! And now normal copying works. (Ctrl C)
    Awesome

Where is this useless software i can remove?

If the drive was empty when you first opened it then there is none.

Why can't you play the Video?

What have you got this External hooked up to,Tower or Lappy?

If  you only have USB 1.1  with  a USB 2.O external, then I think it will keep dropping Frames, when trying to Copy.

    If it's a Lappy,has it USB 2.O, or USB 1.1?

I assumed that meant the problem has been fixed or it least it fixed itself.
