convert windows server 2003 r2 sp2 trial to full version

I have a trial version of windows 2003 server r2 sp2 installed and running
on a production machine. What do I need to do to install fully licensed
version without having to reinstall OS and reconfigure(other than buying a
    licensed copy)?

Has anyone ever had to do this before? Can I just update the license code?

  3. Hello SBS,

Sorry but you can't upgrade a trial version to a full version this requires
a reinstall with the correct media.

    Best regards

I happened to see that you have instructions from 24-09-2007 on another post
on how to do this. I am just trying to convert to licensed version without
losing my settings. You other instructions are as follows:

    - Insert the CD in your server, and reboot the server
    - Once you get te "press any key to boot from CD... " do so
    - When you are prompted to press F6 to add drivers, do so if you need to...
and proceed to the next step
    - Once you are up to the install/repair (with recovery console) chose to
install then proceed to the next step
    - Press F8 to acknowledge the license, then the installer will search for an
already installed version of Windows and should discover your current 2K3
    server.
    - Choose to repair this installation and the upgrade will proceed.
    - Once it pops you the screen to select the keyboard, language and regional
settings, ajust it to you needs...
    - It should then ask for your License number, which you can enter here (make
sure it's your new valid license) and continue installation.
    - Installation will complete and reboot your server.
    - Log in with your user account you should be back
    - you will have 60 days to activate your windows, and you will need to
    re-apply
all windows update because the machine is more or less new

  5. Hello SBS,

Yes you are right, posted this some time ago and then got the info it shouldn't
work. But 2-3 days ago i got another info about doing a repair install which
will give the option to change the key to full licensed one. So i have to
do some new testing and see what's going on.
Did you chekc the "old" way and does it work for you?

    Best regards

I have not tried yet as I do not want to spend the money on the license if
it does not work. If is is not going to work and I have to set up again, I
am just going to use an XP workstation as it is only serving files to 2
people. It will be much easier to setup.
