I see Starbuck asked that you uninstall Norton. Let's see how that goes.

I'm somewhat surprised that the hard drive passed. All else seems fine as well.

As mentioned, Norton would be the next culprit.

It's gotta be the hard drive or the ram.

Still working with Starbuck on the Malware board. Uninstalled Norton 360 and that didn't really help. He's got some more test for me to run. Then maybe look at the hardware. Or maybe it's time for a new computer if the hard drive is shot. Hate to do that if it can be fixed.
Thanks again for all the advice.

Let's see what happens with the second scan of the drive.

Well, working with starbuck, he ruled out a software/malware problem. Here's a quote from him:

"We've basically ruled out Malware, Software conflict and Operating System corruption.
This really only leaves Hardware as a possible cause.
When it comes to Hardware, the guys helping you in your other thread are more expert than I am.
I recommend that you return to that thread and let them continue helping you."

The symptoms I previously reported are still there.
Not really sure where to go from here. The hard drive seems OK, so maybe it's Ram or something else?
Honestly, I just think it's time for her to get a new computer.

    Thanks,

    Tenstone

At this point, how is it running? Is it just slow or are things not working or are things changing?

If you have a backup, consider reinstalling Windows. That will take some time because of having to install updates. It'll help if you have the install disks for your computer. If you don't have those disks, you'll also have to find and install drivers for all your hardware. It takes time.

Well upon further review, the computer seems to be running OK . She's not having any problems with it, hopefully it'll stay that way. If it starts acting up again, I may be back to bug you folks. I think I'll just leave well enough alone for now.

Thank you all for the help and suggestions. It's greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to come back and report that this computer has been running great with no further problems. Not sure what exactly fixed it but it's running good now! I guess cleaning all the garbage out of it certainly helped. Thanks again for all the help, it's greatly appreciated.
