Not sure where to post this so I'll start here.

Trying to send files (video) to my Dad in China. We tried the FTP software Firezilla but were unable to connect to one another, even after troubleshooting for 2 hours over skype. We even went into DOS and tried to Ping each other's IP adress. Could not communicate which was odd seeing as how we were talking to each other through Skype..

Anyways, any ideas on how to xfer files to one another? Currently we are uploading files one at a time through the skype file transfer interface but it is severely bogging down my computer AND I have many files to send.

    Any tips would be appreciated!

Hi Vigothebutch, and welcome to Computer Help Forums.

The trick when sending multiple files via the internet is to zip them. For example, Skype as you already know can only send a single file at a time (That is with one command). However, if you place multiple files in a zip file, Skype a (and other programs) will treat the zip file as a single file.

There are some decent free zip programs, my personal choice is 7-Zip. Check the link below...

    http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000-2250_4-10045185.html

Note: Just hit the Download now button and don't forget to uncheck/untick any boxes that may offer toolbars and addons, etc.

Of course if you are sending a large amount of files in your Zip, it can take a while to do, but the good thing is that as long as the sender and the recipient leave their skype open, you can both walk away from your computers and leave skype to get on with sending the file.

If you have any questions please get back to us...

Just to add information about this, it's likely the site was censored and access blocked for your Dad because of the Internet Firewall (Great Firewall, whatever you want to call it) in China, it will likely be one of the many sites blocked in China like Facebook and News websites.

Awesome thank you for the help. We have been sending files on skype but it just severely slows my internet to the point where its a pain just to browse the internet. I Dled the 7Zip software and will see if this simplifies things.

As for the great Firewall of China, that's what we assumed aswell. Just seemed like an odd thing for them to keep out.
