The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby, St James's Palace has announced.

Members of the Royal Family and the duchess's family, the Middletons, are said to be delighted.
A spokesman said the duchess, who is thought to be less than 12 weeks pregnant, has been admitted to a London hospital with acute morning sickness and is likely to stay for several days

Personally, I think this is all a load of hot air about nothing. Royalty is feudal. Other women don't go to hospital with morning sickness, they just get on with it. I suppose that we will be bombarded now with the wedding pictures again, and all the family baby pictures. The news programmes will be taken over.

Well look on the bright side, 2 months down, 5 months of press reporting every time she breaks wind :) then a month of baby pictures, then they will try and keep it out the press for the next 16 years.

    British Royalty is an icon.
The media has to report about something to sell papers.
Nothing else much happens in the UK of interest to the rest of the world. :smile2:

Have to agree with andsome, I'll be sick of hearing about it for the next few months then in 6 months or so time we'll be hammered with TV adverts, "In Heat magazine this week, new photos of Will & Kates baby.....ya da ya da".
Not that I don't like the Royal Family they do come in handy for drawing in American tourists (and others around the World) to Buckingham Palace and other places in London, so between them they sort of earn the money taxpayers give them, but I can't avoid it because I like to read the news and the first thing on the BBC page currently is about the Royal Family succession, not that it matters to most of us there's probably a million people (if not way more) in place before I'd get anywhere near them including other European Royalty (I think I read somewhere that countries like the Netherlands, Norway and Romania are listed for succession, somewhere in the 100's).

Oh well had my moan today, feel better now :p

I had to smile when I saw this comment=

"Kate is in hospital and is attached to a drip.

That isn't news, she married him ages ago."

    Really?
Kate Middleton has a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. ( look it up )

This is a severe form of morning sickness that causes vomiting up to 30 times a day.
Constant vomiting causes dehydration and weight loss. This can be 10% of body weight.

There is a 12 week old foetus to think about too.

Dehydration in the mother can result in dehydration in the child.
Loss of body weight is always a cause for concern when pregnant.

    Hot air ??
If it were my daughter I would insist that she be admitted to hospital - even a NHS one.

So be it, but why is it considered necessary for TV cameras to be posted outside the hospital, and why is it considered to be the number one news item? There are more important things to worry about going on in the world. We are likely to have this rammed down our throats daily from now on.

lol, Didn't know Ken was a royalist, But I have to agree with Andsome, by all means report she is pregnant, and ill in hospital, and what she is Ill with. but that's it If she was my Daughter I would be upset at having all the press outside the hospital, especially as other people need to use that hospital and they are obstructing the footpaths. the press need to learn to respect their public lives and private lives and people that buy papers need to show respect and stop buying stuff just because it mentions the royals, after all if we didn't buy all the rubbish they print they wouldn't print it.

Not a royalist per say - but we shouldn't make light of, what is, a serious health condition.
    [ And I do like babies ( although I couldn't eat a whole one :) ]

Too true - and if you don't want to watch it on tv - switch channel.

I have to say I seem to be one of the few people that does, If its Rubbish, Annoying, or Boring it gets turned off, ask my wife she has to wait till I go to bed to watch Eastenders :)

I don't think anyone is making light of her condition, however she's not the first and won't be the last to suffer from it, and in the UK if treated on the NHS it's not life threatening, but saying that a splinter in your finger can be life threatening if left untreated.

so given she's in hospital, being attended to by the best doctors in the country, I think we can say she is going to live, and not have a miscarriage, so I see no need to report more than what she's in hospital with, and maybe an explanation of it, then job done till she leaves hospital.

and given that she is not unique in suffering this why does a lot of the press reports exaggerate its seriousness, in fact it was that serious she was driven by car, not ambulance, not flown by helicopter, so in my mind the doctor that first attended her decided it was best she was admitted to hospital for a safety precaution not that her life was in danger.

Andover may have been in error in directing his comments at her and not at the press coverage, but I have the same sentiments. I couldn't really care less, thanks for the warning I'll be sourcing my news of the net for a while, now lets get to the important stuff like George Osbourne ####### up my finances. and what's for dinner tonight :)
