That isn't possible because a) you did not set up a recovery email address and b) you don't get texts on your phone. Since those are the only 2 ways to "recover" your gmail email account, it isn't going to happen.

Any website email works with either browser. Free email choices: Yahoo, mail.com, outlook (it loads very slow on my Win 7 desktop computer), Proton, Juno, GMX (it tends to show an ad and states an error before I can log in).

Is it OK to have a Google Chrome AND a Mozilla Firefox and alternate which is the default? The reason is because different things may work with different browsers. I now have Google and Firefox ESR installed.

    To: Cindy;
Hi, Cindy. Thank you for the email I just received and since I do not get these often or ever I made a mistake and replied before I noticed the "DO NOT REPLY" instruction. I hope that was OK. Anyway I appreciate it. Bill.

Now using original Google Chrome and the newly downloaded and installed Firefox ESR. I just make one or the other the default browser. G-mail works with Firefox but not with Google, likely because something wrong with my Google recovery email. May replace he Google with something else as soon as I can decide WHAT. Firefox seems to work OK though.

Keep FF ESR the default. Chrome is not patched so not safe to use on a Windows 7 computer.

If Chrome says it wants to be the default, ignore it - don't click on make it the default. Sites will still open in Chrome, even if it is not the default browser.

I shall follow this recommendation. FF ESR is now set as default. Thank you.

Things DO seem to work better with Firefox ESR as default. I may just start using FF again. I used to use and only have Firefox but then for some reason I changed to Google. I forget why.

No idea because I don't drag web addresses to a folder.
Click the star in the address bar and the site is added to Bookmarks. Click on Bookmarks and you can go to the site again.

When your Bookmarks list is long, I'll explain how to create folders and move links that you want grouped together. You work using Bookmarks, not what you are attempting to do.

I checked on my W7 machine running Firefox. I can drag web addresses to my desktop or to a folder. No problem.
You may be dragging the wrong part of the address. Try dragging another area.

I want to say I have learned to use the Snipping Tool of which I recently learned that must have been there on my laptop all along.
Seems to work well for making screen copies. Wish I had known of it sooner. I am now using mostly Firefox ESR as default browser.
But I cannot seem to drag and drop web addresses in FF like I could with Google. Must be some way to do so? Used to make a new desktop folder then drag and drop web addresses to it. I am now trying the Bookmark Star to learn how.

I decided to follow the advice and now using only Firefox with Duck Duck Go search and leave the Google alone. The Firefox does all I want or need right now and it is confusing to keep switching from one to the other. I used to use Firefox only and for some unknown reason I went to Google. Now I will use Firefox ESR as default. It works well for me.

Now it says the old Firefox is still running and must be closed. And should I NEVER set Google as the default now? Note: this should be in the above post. How do I copy the web address URL to a folder or desktop with Firefox ESR? it used to work all the time with Google and Google Search but with FF ESR I just get a circle with an "X" icon. And sometimes there is a line through the padlock which says "Not Secure" There is a shield outline and a padlock with a line through it. I cannot drag and drop the web address in FF ESR.
And also I have started getting emails in FF ESR from Computer Help Forums which never happened with Google Chrome. Lots of strange happenings. Never before got emails in my search engines. Now it says the old Firefox is still running and must be closed. And should I NEVER set Google as the default now?

    That is correct.

Use bookmarks. Don't drag websites to the desktop. At the far right of the address bar is a star. Click on that and the site is marked as a bookmark so you can come back to it later.

A line through the padlock means the site is using http at the beginning instead of https simply showing it is not a secure site.
Sometimes my juno email loads http instead of the more secure https. I don't know why it does that.

Sometimes, like today, there is a message saying old Firefox is still running and must be closed to continue. How do I do this?

I AM using the star - I CAN'T drag and drop now. It only worked with Google. Not FF ESR.
