Harry you are definatly on the "glass half empty" side of things. Having the wrong drivers or, in your case probably outdated drivers, can cause a lot of different hardware problems.

If I have it right, your hard drive has stopped making noises and vibrating and the system seem to be running ok. Correct?

It clearly took a severe knock that probably messed up the hard drive. You have undated your chipset drivers and all seems well. My suggestion is to let nature take its course, there is really no evidence that there is anything wrong with the MOBO. Just double check that everything is seated properly and you may well never have another problem. We are, of course, here if you do.

My pc is still being weird though. still restarts and freezes, just a bit less than before I reinstalled the new drivers. So i really still tihnk its the motherboard dying.

    Oh one tihng

The Capacitators all look like they are leaking. So Is it worth getting them repaired? or just buying new Motherboard. (Probs the same motherboard lol)

If the capacitors look like they a bulging and leaking then it is time for a new motherboard. Asus and Abit boars had a problem with bad capacitors and they offered an exchange. This was a couple years ago so I'm not sure if they will still honor a request exchange. In any case if the capacitors are leaking the motherboard is toast.

This is more for members who may read this thread than it is for you Harry, but it does point out the need to try to observe everything and report as much as possible.

In this case you clearly had more than one problem. The hard drive took a beating on the trip from France and the MOBO was apparently on its way out for a while. It is hard to say whether the trip made the MOBO worse or that the damaged drive just made the situation more critical but it really doesn't make much difference.

Had we been aware of the leaking capacitors we would have advised you earlier regarding the motherboard. On the other hand, had you not changed the battery and searched for loose cards and cables you may not have noticed that either.

You need a new Motherboard as noted. If you need any help with its installation we are here for you. You may also run into some Microsoft validation issues with your version of Windows. However even under Microsoft's own interpretation of its EULA a failed motherboard is a sufficient reason to allow for validation.

Oh god. I just took my Pc apart, and put it back together, to see if it would somehow revive my system for a bit longer, and I noticed that for the past couple of weeks, one tiny little black & white cable (really small), was not plugged into the motherboard (even tho the pc still turned on etc). I've plugged it all back in including that one now, and so far (10 minutes lol) no problems.

Please don't tell me (actually do) that that little black&white cable is probably the reason for the frequent freezing + restarts lol!

Without a picture Harry it is very hard to say. Did you follow the cable to its source? It sounds like it may be a fan cable (usually quite small and thin but black.)

Of course there is still the issue of the capacitors, are you sure they are actually leaking/bulging?
