I have windows xp home edition with a dell vostro 200.

I turned my computer off to move some furniture. When I plugged it back in the screen was out of focus, plus the icons were scattered around on my home screen and the font changed. I checked the connections, they all were proper. I tried working the monitor buttons but that didn't help (although it might if i actually knew how to operate the things).

PLease advise how i can fix this.

    Welcome back MG!

The first thing I would do is unplug the monitor from the PC and remove the cable completely. Make certain that the pins are all straight and not bent. Then plug it back in and restart.

Assuming that does not help, please let us know what the brand name of the monitor is and the model number. If it carries the PC manufactures brand then give us the information about the PC, The size of the monitor would also be helpful With that information we can guide you through the proper settings for that monitor. I see now that you have a Dell Vostro 200. That machine comes with a number of monitor choices. The main difference is the size. If we know that we can give you the resolution settings and how to check them.

ASUS - are there any others worth buying?

It happens when PCs are moved, all you have to do is right click on the screen and select properties, set the resolution, it will be at either 640 or 800, if its a 15-17 screen you want 1024x768 or 1280x1024 anything 20 above or widescreen will start at 1680x1050

I had the original plugged into a splitter that connected with a cable that went to the TV - with that we were able to see streaming videos and movies from the internet on our TV (HULU, for example). When i unplugged the splitter and reinstalled the original monitor plug the screen cleared up. I didn't see anything wrong with the splitter. Still, that may be the problem.

It's no big deal at the moment as we've discovered our internet provider (satelitte) is not fast enough for streaming. We live in a small town out in the boondocks with few choices for internet service.

    Thanks

    appreciate the help.

It may be that when you removed the monitor and the splitter and then replaced the cables after you moved, that the No 1 and No 2 screens may have been reversed causing the resolution to be wrong for each screen.
