COMPUTER LOCKED

    Recently I seem to be getting many scares saying my computer has been locked and to call certain number for cleaning or treatment. Never in my 1998-2023 computer experience has this kept on occurring. What is the best thing to do? So far I have just shut down and/or unplugged computer, let it sit awhile then restarted. So far this has worked. But it IS SCARY !

    If you keep seeing pop-up windows in your web browser that says “Virus Alert from Microsoft” or to call a certain number for cleaning or treatment etc , it usually means you're either on a website that hosts dangerous pop-ups or that your system has malware.

    Sounds more like you're on a dodgy website.
    If so, a browser restart will usually clear the message.
